Scolari says he will work hard to win the hearts of fans

Felipe Scolari was introduced as Palmeiras’ new coach on Thursday (15). He promised not to use the club as a springboard for coaching Brazil's team. After talking about Brazil’s national team during his formal
introduction as Palmeiras' new head coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari promised to give even more of himself during his second stint with the São Paulo club - his first was between 1997 and 2000, when he won the Brazil Cup and Copa Mercosur, both in 1998, the Libertadores Cup in 1999 and the Rio-São Paulo Tournament in 2000. However, Scolari also asked fans to be patient with him at least until the end of the year. “I'll try to do everything I've done in recent years in the clubs where I have worked, and with a lot of heart. To our fans, I can say that nothing has changed and my involvement with the club will be even greater this time around. I have a career to cap off and I want to remain close to your heart. Everyone knows it won’t be easy, but we must have patience until the end of the year. A great project bears fruit with hard work, never overnight”, said the smiling Palmeiras coach. The club’s president, Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo, emphasized that Scolari’s return would bring back
the pride fans used to have for Palmeiras. ”Palmeiras brings Felipão back to Brazil with pride, satisfaction and the hope of working with him for a long time”, said the president. The coach signed a two and a half year contract with the team after acquiring international experience as
head coach of the Portuguese national team, England’s Chelsea and Uzbekistan’s Bunyodkor. The renowned coach’s task is to place the team on the path to winning the most important titles in the national arena. However, the issue of who will coach the national team was the
main subject of the coach’s first interview. After all, he was chosen by Brazilians in numerous surveys to take command of Brazil’s national team now that Dunga has been dismissed. Scolari was emphatic in assuring that he is not thinking about coaching the national team at the moment, but has only Palmeiras on his mind. “I never work at a place with ulterior motives, thinking of another job. If I eventually have to leave by the request of A or B, I will speak with the president of the club and act in everyone’s best interest. I am here to introduce myself to Palmeiras, which will be part of my life. I am not worried about what will happen, but am anxious to serve those who brought me here to Palmeiras. I thank Brazilians for their trust and their thoughts after so many years, but my priority now is Palmeiras”, said the coach, drawing the crowd’s applause.
