MANTER AS APARÊNCIAS



Como dizer em inglês "Manter as aparências" no sentido de mostrar "posses" que não tem?

Em inglês existe uma expressão legal para isso:

KEEP UP WITH THE JONESES

Collins: (informal) to compete with one's neighbours in material possessions, etc

Cambridge: to always want to own the same expensive objects and do the same things as your friends or neighbours because you are worried about seeming less important socially than they are

The free Dictionary: to try to own all the same things as people you know in order to seem as good as them 

Example sentences:

Her only concern in life was keeping up with the Joneses.
There are loads of people who are always trying to keep up with the Joneses.
My neighbor bought the same model car I have. He is always keeping up with the Joneses.
